COUTURIER: SHEIK

Curator Lagos Traffic Galleries, Lead Designer @ Lagos Traffic Couture, Visual Activist and Conveyor Lagos Traffic Project

🌍✨ I’m a self-proclaimed “Couture Nomad,” an extrovert, and a global citizen who’s been fortunate enough to travel the world and soak up diverse cultures, norms, and the rich tapestry of music and art. 🎨

As the Couturier and Lead Designer at Lagos Traffic Couture and the Curator of Lagos Traffic Galleries, I’m honored to be seen as a creative trendsetter and innovator by my friends and family. 🌟

Growing up with a Nigerian father and Trinidadian mother introduced me to a musical melting pot—Classical, Afrobeat, RnB, Hip-hop, Calypso, Soca, and later, Afrobeat(s) and Afro-global fusion rhythms. These influences have deeply shaped my artistic vision, with Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti and other iconic figures in the Afrobeat movement inspiring my work. 🎶💫

Fela Kuti’s powerful music still speaks truth to power, highlighting the struggles of politicians and lawmakers around the world. His songs capture the essence of “Suffering and Smiling,” a reminder of the daily struggles and resilience in life.

My collection is a tribute to this inspiration, driven by a relentless desire to CREATE, RE-IMAGINE, and EVOLVE. The phrase “LAGOS TRAFFIC - GO SLOW DEY AREA!” reflects the chaotic beauty of Lagos and my creative process—an analogy for the city’s dynamic energy and my approach to design. 🚦💥

Embracing a mindset that transcends borders, I continue to explore and evolve in the world of couture. My designs are a celebration of global diversity and a reflection of my ongoing journey of creativity. 🌍💖 #LagosTrafficCouture #GlobalCitizen #CreativeJourney #FashionInnovation
